This is an attractive mid-terrace Victorian house in the Wellington and Victorian Conservation area, Deal. The house was purchased at auction and was in a dilapidated condition – untouched for 100 years, it had no indoor toilet or bathing facilities and still retained some early gas light fittings!

Valerie was commissioned by the new owner to transform the house into an elegant, contemporary home for his daughter. The project involved comprehensive refurbishment of the entire house, including all the building fabric – walls, floors and roofs, as well as fitting new windows, plumbing, electrics and data installations, plus building new bathrooms and a kitchen with graceful lines and stylish fittings. The project also involved creating a sophisticated rear extension with clean lines and a sleek, plateau roof light, to accommodate a spacious new family room, filled with light and opening out to the rear garden. The client was delighted with the end result, and has since commissioned Valerie to provide architectural and planning advice for redeveloping another site he owns in North Deal.
