Walmer Conservation Areas

Walmer has three conservation areas: the South Barracks; the Walmer Seafront, which incorporates The Strand, The Beach, Archery Square and the East Barracks; and Upper Walmer, including part of Grams Road and Walmer Village. Valerie has extensive experience of working on heritage seafront properties in maritime environments, as she previously held a Ministerial appointment to Dover Harbour Board, supporting the redevelopment of the historic Western Docks and, until recently, she held a Ministerial appointment to Trinity House Lighthouse Board, managing a portfolio of iconic operational lighthouses, most of which are Listed buildings.

As we have a growing family, we needed to create an additional, third bedroom, and invited Valerie to help by extending the house upwards. The house is in Walmer Conservation area, and Valerie deftly navigated the Planning process, securing an excellent Consent for a mansard roof extension, and then secured a second Consent to add French doors with Juliette balconies on the front elevation, providing spectacular sea views over the Channel. We had a tight budget, and Valerie worked with us to ensure the project could be built within our means. The new extension is sensational, and our project was a great success.”
